My first experience with jewellery developed during my kindergarten years at Vironniemi. I have vivid memories of an American Indian themed camp where I made jewellery from feathers. In primary school I was making bracelets for my classmates.
I am very lucky to be part of an artistic family – this has influenced my character and given me the passion for creating and designing things. My father's unique choice of fashion was very inspiring and broke the usual stereotypes of men's dressing. This was reflected by his signature style of mixing clothes with jewellery.
Participating in sports and art workshops pretty much made up my childhood. Art classes were so cool at school.
My “light bulb moment” came when I was working in a jewellery shop. I realised that not all things matter in life so I narrowed my focus on creating something fresh. I knew my thing would be to introduce my own collection.
Nowadays I give jewellery design all the time it demands because I am so thrilled to be doing something that I love.
All the jewellery that I have designed tells a special story and has a unique importance to me.
I'm really happy to be able to do what I love and to share it with others. I hope this never ends!
So what in fact is this Nikolai Babitzin Helsinki? It is my life story.
